Overview
The Prevention & Service Support Team (PSST) provide education and training on a wide variety of Drug and Alcohol Addiction related topics.
Service Description
The Prevention and Service Support team is responsible for the development, co-ordination, delivery and facilitation of addiction related training events throughout Ayrshire and Arran. The team’s main objective and commitment is to provide a wide range of education and training initiatives which focus on improving awareness, competence and knowledge of both those affected by substance misuse and those working in the field.
All our training courses are offered free of charge.
The PSST currently provides a structured Training Calendar with a portfolio of nine one day courses and four half day courses. These courses are constantly evolving and adapting to stay relevant to any emerging issues and trends. The courses are open to all services, organisations and members of the community within Ayrshire and Arran. They are provided free of charge, although there are charges for non attendance or late cancellation.
The PSST also offer ad-hoc training sessions and information stands. The training sessions take place at the venue of the organisation’s choice and are designed around the specific needs of the group. The team has a flexible approach to these individual training requests, with the option of delivery at weekends and evenings if these are the most suitable timess for the participants. The organisations requesting the training have varied requirements and as a result the sessions can be run as two-day, one-day, or half-day events. Awareness sessions of a few hours are also delivered regularly.
We would ask for a minimum of eight participants for these in-house events. If you require training for less than eight participants you may be put on a waiting list until training can be combined with another request and delivered at a mutually suitable time and venue.
The team can also provide an information stand at any health event or conference. We have a varied stock of alcohol and drug information resources which we can select from, again dependent on the specific event and request. There is also the option of making it quite interactive with the use of beer goggles, pouring units and exploring the drug box.
Should you wish to request any ad-hoc training or the provision of an information stall at an event, please contact the PSST and ask for a training needs request form. This allows you to detail your requirements and ensures the best package is designed to fit your needs.
For more information on any of our services, you can also contact the team on 01294 322339.
