Overview
The Management team at Horizons have brought together over 30 years’ experience in all sectors of care for looked after children. This covers both local authority care and private organisations in respite care, residential care, close support, secure and through care/after care establishments. At Horizons Residential Care we provide a unique close support environment for 3 children with a one to one staff ratio, this provision of care allows for intensive individualised care packages to be moulded to the needs of the young people within our care.
We are located in Edinburgh – Corstorphine, with well established transport links to all of Scotland. As a forward thinking care provider, our team of qualified and experienced professionals have extensive expertise in psychology, early years interventions, social pedagogy, proactive care planning and criminal justice which brings together an essential value base second to none.
Service Description
Horizons Residential Care is a bespoke provider of care for Looked After Children / young people aged 8 to 18 years old. We provide a cost effective holistic, therapeutic rich environment that councils across Scotland can access as they may no longer have the resources to meet the young persons needs.
Costs
Emergency / Assessments / Short term placements £3,800 / week Long Term / Planned Placements £3,600 / week Respite Placements £3,800 / week Dual occupancy, Siblings x2 Rates negotiable
Duration
Crisis placements: We offer placements to children and young people in crisis, including same day placements Short term placements: For children and young people who need a residential child care placement but can be supported to move on to other resources or return to their families Long term placements: For children and young people who need long term placements in residential child care due to the level and complexity of their needs Residential respite placements: For children and young people who can benefit from crisis or planned respite Siblings: We understand the importance of keeping siblings together, therefore Horizons approach ensures that attachments are developed and maintained appropriately.
Resources and Amenities
We understand that education plays a vital part in a young person’s development and recognise the difficulties looked after children may face during this stage in their life. Horizons will provide an educationally rich environment were staff will encourage and support the young people to attend school/college. Staff will regularly meet with teachers and educational professionals to monitor and plan the young person’s progress. We have an established relationship with our local schools and colleges to facilitate educational places for young people moving out with their local authority. Our location has been carefully planned to ensure that reaching our house is as easy and stress free as practical. We are located just across the road from Edinburgh Zoo, one of the cities tourist attractions. We have access to extensive public transport links to all areas of Scotland with Haymarket and Waverley train stations being just a short bus trip away. The bus stop is just across the road with buses being available every few minutes. Situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh, we are minutes away from the City Bypass, which provides major road network access.
