Overview
Epilepsy Connections is an established provider of community based information, education, support and training services for people of all ages with epilepsy. Support is also provided for families, paid and unpaid carers, teachers, employers and others involved in their lives.
We have 16 years’ experience of working with epilepsy health professional colleagues (and in particular with epilepsy specialist nurses) health, social work and housing staff; employers; teachers; lecturers and staff in schools, colleges and universities.
Jim Thompson is the Epilepsy Connections fieldworker for Ayrshire and Arran and can offer information, advice and support to help you live well with epilepsy.
Service Description
Epilepsy Connections can help you with:
- Advice; on housing,benefits,safety at home,transport,travel and on managing your epilepsy at home, school, college, university or work
- Support and informal counselling; One-to-one,family and group support to allow you to deal with your feelings about epilepsy and its impact
- Links with professionals; Contact with your GP and specialist staff and liaison with other professionals about your epilepsy needs
- Training; In Epilepsy Awareness and Rescue Medication
- Information and self-management; About epilepsy and a range of related issues to enable you to live well and safely with epilepsy
Jim is now based in Fullarton Connexions Church every Thursday from 9am to 5pm and every Friday morning from 9am to 12.30pm which gives him the opportunity to meet directly with patient’s/family members.
Every Friday afternoon from 1pm to 5pm Jim is in clinic with the Epilepsy Specialist Nurse Gareth Davison at Ayrshire Central Hospital which means people can be referred directly to the fieldworker for hands on practical advice and support.
You can self- refer by giving Jim a call on 07585570466, you can be referred by the Epilepsy Specialist Nurse, through carers or family members, referral can come through Social Work, or any of the local third sector organisations i.e. CAB, Carers and the Community Community Links Practitioner programme.
The next epilepsy support group meeting is at Fullarton Connexions Church Irvine KA12 8PE on Thursday 10th August from 5pm – 7pm
