Overview
ENABLE Scotland is a dynamic charity run by its members. We are a charitable organisation founded in 1954 by the parents of children who had learning disabilities in order to ensure that people who have learning disabilities have the same choices and opportunities in life as everyone else. We campaign for a better life for children and adults who have learning disabilities. We support people who have learning disabilities and their families to live, work and take part in their communities.
We make sure that children and adults with learning disabilities and their carers are at the heart of everything that we do.
ENABLE Scotland is a charitable organisation as well as a service provider. We are governed by our members, a Board of Trustees and a Board of Directors. As a member led organisation, it is part of our constitution to listen to our members and always act with their interests at heart. We encourage members to actively participate in how the organisation is run by getting involved with our committees and Scottish Council. We are a campaigning organisation established to fight discrimination and inequality and ensure that people who have learning disabilities are regarded as equal members of society.
Our values
Respect We respect our customers, members and staff at all times
Integrity We are honest and truthful in our actions
Equality We treat everyone as our equal
Ethics We will always do the right thing
Ambition We raise expectations for people who have learning disabilities, their families and those who work for them.
Service Description
We have provided support services to adults who have a learning disability in Ayrshire for over 20 years. We have grown from providing support to 20 people to over 80 people across Ayrshire today. We provide Care at Home and Housing Support services. We can provide support from as little as one hour per week or as much as 24-hours per day. We do not provide accommodation, our services are provided either in the individuals home or out and about in the community. We provide a range of person centred services designed to ensure that the people we support can live the life they want and actively participate in their community. Our services are designed to be flexible and are tailored to individual needs in order to fit each individual’s lifestyle. We work with the individual we are supporting and their family and friends to find out about their likes and dislikes, listening to their hopes and dreams and individual goals, using this information we will work with individuals to design support and services that work for each person. We now offer support to Children and Young people in Ayrshire. We can support Children and Young people at various stages of their lives; from infancy and throughout school years and we can also support young people to make the transition from school into employment or further education.
